Raleigh GAA Hosts Successful GAA Fundamentals Coaching Camp with Colm Egan

March 2, 2016

IMG_1810 IMG_1816On February 27th, Raleigh GAA hosted a very successful GAA Fundamentals Coaching camp. Colm Egan, GAA Development Officer, travelled down from Chicago to North Carolina to host a very interactive and fun course for the 26 people in attendance. Aside from Raleigh GAA members, there were also 6 people from Winston Salem GAA club and 2 from the Hampton Roads Virginia GAA club.

The location (Knights of Columbus hall and grounds in north Raleigh) as well as the beautiful North Carolina spring weather helped contribute towards a great day for all concerned.

The following day, Colm Egan took a 2-hour coaching session, with all camp participants present in addition to Raleigh GAA regulars. This session focused on game positioning in both hurling and football. It also helped the newly trained up coaches from the day prior to understand how to structure a real GAA training session.

The importance of this camp will hopefully be seen in the months and years to come as we try to expand the playing of gaelic games in the triangle region of north Carolina. This will add to the growth of the NC State and UNC GAA clubs as well as the creation of the Triangle Irish Sports Youth Association, with so many trained coaches now in the area.

A big thanks goes to Colm and all of the attendees for making this camp worthwhile.

Roll on a successful 2016!
