It’s the first week of August. What’s ahead for the club?
- Raleigh Cú Chulainn are the Southeast Division Men’s Junior C Football Champions and will represent the Division in that grade at Nationals.
- Raleigh Cú Chulainn are representing the Southeast Division in Men’s Junior B Hurling at Nationals.
Every August, athletes and supporters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) from across the United States and Canada, gather together for a weekend-long tournament to close the official season. The tournament, which is played in a different U.S. city each year, features more than 2,000 male and female athletes playing Gaelic football, Hurling, and Camogie. This year, the Mid-Atlantic GAA is hosting the tournament in Leesburg, VA at the Morven Park Athletic Fields.
We have two weeks to make our final preparations for the Finals Tournament as both the Southeast Division Junior C football champions and the Junior B hurling champions (all other southeast hurling clubs went Junior C). Trying to win both of these grades at Nationals will require us to win six games in three days – a hurling and football game on each of Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the weekend of August 24th. It’s a huge challenge but one that we’ll relish. We’re already in the best shape we’ve ever been in, and we are increasing the intensity at training and at games to achieve this feat.
If you would like to support us in our goal to win two national championship trophies and bring them back to Raleigh, you can make your secure and tax-deductible donation to the club here: https://go.rallyup.com/69685a
It is not cheap to send nearly 50 players to an away tournament and we appreciate any support we can get. If you are unable to give we would love to have you cheer us on from wherever you are as we strive to bring two cups – for the first time – back to the triangle. The after-party at home will be epic!
Drive on, Raleigh!
