I was first introduced to the GAA when I was traveling back and forth to Ireland for work. I worked in Fermoy and stayed at a hotel in the city in Cork. Ireland was a great time going to the pubs after work and watching Gaelic football games with pints of Murphy’s. I even made it to a hurling match in Kilkenny! I had no idea how the score worked or what was even going on, but I loved it. I like playing all different kinds of sports and wanted to try it out for myself. It wasn’t until I met my girlfriend Emily that I found our club here in Raleigh and got my first chance at playing both sports. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming when I first showed up. I’ve been very fortunate to have teachers who grew up playing the game and also those who only recently picked it up. Traveling to tournaments and meeting other clubs in the Southeast has also been great. I’m grateful to Emily and the rest of the club for sharing the games and the culture with me. Can’t wait to make it to Nationals soon!
