Raleigh GAA ladies’ Camogie players and the men’s Hurling team thoroughly enjoyed a day of Gaelic sport on Saturday, hosted by Charleston Hurling Club. Four of our ladies joined the Carolinas team (Amy, Erin, Bethany and Andrea) and did us all proud! It was Andrea’s first time playing in a Camogie game, after attending her first training session just the week before. She was AMAZING and we are looking forward to watching her as the season progresses!
The Hurler’s day started out with a win against The Citadel Hurling Club, who put up a great game. Next up, we met Savannah’s Hurlers and the Raleigh men added another win to their scoreboard. The third game of the day brought us up against Charleston’s Hurlers, the win which got us our place in the Holy City Cup Final. The Final brought us another meeting with Savannah and after a slow start in the first half, a flash of lightning cut short our second half comeback attempt. The game had to be called off and the Savannah Hurlers duly won the Cup after a great day of Hurling! We congratulate them on their Cup win and Raleigh will be eager to regain it in 2024!
It was a fun day of Camogie & Hurling, which was celebrated in downtown Charleston at Tommy Condon’s (for some until the wee hours of the morning!). Thank you to our Charleston friends for organising a great event and we hope to see you at our own upcoming Hurling & Camogie Tournament in Raleigh on July 8th.
