Raleigh GAA – Hurling team are THROUGH to USGAA Finals in Denver, CO
Last Saturday 06/24 Raleigh GAA’s Hurling team traveled to Charlotte, NC to participate in the Southeast Division Championship game against Atlanta GAA. The game was set for 11am, with temperatures well into the 80’s and the pressure was on. Not only was this a Division Championship game, it was also the qualifier that would send the winners to the USGAA Finals in Denver, CO on 18-20 August.
The game was a rollercoaster and showcased the passion and skills of these two tremendous teams. At half-time, Raleigh were down by 10 points. With 14 minutes to go, they were down by 8 points. But the Raleigh men dug deep and took the lead, going just 1 point ahead, with just minutes to the full-time whistle. Atlanta equalised just before full-time and we went into overtime. By now, the teams had played two 30 minute halves and were pretty spent.
Overtime was an additional two 10 minute halves, with 5 minutes break in between. To say that it was a battle is an understatement. Both teams wanted this win so badly and they fought hard. Raleigh showed their class and courage in extra time to win a game we should have lost, but deserved to win. It was an unbelieveable game of hurling and we were delighted and relieved to come out on top. The final score was Ral 7-16 to Atl 6-14

You are a class act and we were delighted to hear that your football team has qualified so that we will still see you in Denver. Our own Football team will have their qualifier match at our home tournament on the 8th July and we wish them the very best of luck against Charlotte GAA!
